He doesn't have actual superpowers, does he? Just peak strength, speed, endurance, and agility for a human. I dunno.
Yet I have to wonder if there's something more, seeing as he could survive being frozen in a block of ice for 20 years. Perhaps his metabolism is superhuman.
He's also smarter than the average bear.

I'd say that, while he doesn't have superpowers, he is superpowered, as Mike said. His endurance, metabolism and stamina are superpowered by the Super Soldier Serum. His strength, speed and agility far exceeds a normal man but all three fall below those that have super powers (like Spider-Man). This enhanced metabolism is what kept him alive on ice for decades, too.
so would he beat Usain Bolt in the 100m?

I'd say no to both parts of your question.

No, Captain America for the majority of his history does not have super powers (he did have super strength for a while during the '70s).
Is he the same as an olympic athlete?
Again, while you may find an olympic powerlifter as strong as Cap, a sprinter as fast as Cap, and a gymnast as agile, what makes Captain America remarkable is that he is able to excel in all these areas of athletic ability at the same time.
Yeah, I never thought of Cap as having superpowers. He can't do anything that is completely outside of the capabilities of a human being.
He's a superpower, but he doesn't possess the abilities
other characters with superpowers have such as flight,shooting heat beams out of his eyes and so forth.
His strength, speed agility were all given to him by the super soldier formula so in essence those ARE his powers. |
