Halo Master Chief Female

Here is something I have been working on in bewteen commissions and AH Power Girl fs sculpt that I am still working on.  It is kind of a refresher.  I will probably finish it this weekend.  A lot of detail and layers to apply, but it is rather fun and new.

Looking good Jon. The helmet is right on

I like how your switching around the types of projects you work on.  Hulk;lot of muscels, Hellboy and Divinci; realism and clothes and now halo ; a suit of armor.  Switching around the types of materials you need to sculpt will make you a far better sculptor then if you just sculpt one thing.
good work so far on this one also!

Looks good so far.

hey there. the helmet is looking pretty dope.

However I'm not so sure about the chest armor. I know it's still early to crit but I don't think her breasts would be exposed. Basically all the armor was close to the same for all the Spartans with a few slightly different permutations but I think they tried to limit the amount of open flesh / weak spots that were visible.

Anyways keep up the good work. Looking cool.

Thanks guys.  I really appreciate the comments.  Yes, I like to switch up the characters, styles, and attributes of each sculpt at the moment to gain as much experience as possible.  And when comfortable I will come back to the same character in another sculpt or something similar and make an effort to do it even better and so on.

Here is an update.  I made the picture grayscale color so it is easier to see details.  After the sculpt is complete I am working to make the armor semetrical and even by sanding, filling, and trimming.  An Iron-Man wouldn't be too hard after this...
Thanks again!

Very good points about the chest armor.  I tried mixing original design and functonality with a little quot;fantasyquot;.  Kind of like some games and comic characters I suppose.  I make another one with full decked-out armor with 100% functionality if time permits because this character is very fun.

Thanks,

awesome sounds cool. Nice update too. Really digging the details.

What type of clay are you using? I use super sculpey but usually for hard surface stuff it gets really soft and sometimes hard to get those crisp hard edges.

I haven't tried the firm stuff yet.

Thanks!  To answer your question I am using armature wire, then apoxie sculpt, and the top layer is super sculpey.

Super Sculpey firm or Wax is ideal for do armor or anything that has a symetrical or hard smooth surface.  On the other hand it takes longer as well.  If I am working on a quick project I use super sculpey (regular beige).  It is realy muchy at first but if you constantly smooth it and get used to the surface and amount of pressure to apply it is really a quick process.  Super sculpey fluid, large and small flat tools, and a flat or filbert brush in various sizes will do the trick.  after baking you would have to sand it to find uneven surfaces or raised areas and you can sand more or fill and smooth with apoxie sculpt.  If I am not using super sculpey firm from for the whole of the project and you need details, you can use super sculpey in layers with multiple bakings, and apoxie sculpt for fine details that go on top or fill small holes and gaps.  After baking, drying, and priming, you can see any mistakes that are left and just fix as needed.

I hope that helps explain a few things.
