non-smart phones and texting

Both of my daughters have the Versa, which is a non-smart phone.  They have both had issues with the phones freezing up or the screen going blank.  When I talked to the tech guys at Verizon, they said that the excessive texting is causing the issues.  So, the question is does anyone else use a non-smart phone and do a lot (and I do mean a lot) of texting and have this issue?  They are both on their third phones with the same issues.

I have heard of this problem. The keys will begin to stick and lock up from over use. The non-text developed phones were not meant to take that kind of workload and usage.

Sorry dad they need smart phones! $$$
