Warlord of Mars by Dynamite

I'm on board!
Freakin' out over this announcement. Dynamite has been doing some FANTASTIC stuff that gets lost in their mediocre stuff. The new Pahntom book that just launced, The Last Phantom, was one of the best comics I've read all summer.
These are some of the first fantasy novels I ever read, and so much better than Tarzan, IMO. I'll check it out.
I was excited to hear that Joe Jusko would contribute a cover; however, when I saw the large scan on the recent Comic Shop News, I picked it apart. It's not one of his better works.
Protector, if you have some Dynamite recs, I'd love to hear them. I haven't been impressed with much of anything I've read.
Looks like it could be very good...at least the covers anyway...

I think the Jusko cover's the best of the 4 (jeesh, 4 covers) that will serve for the 1st issue. The Parrillo cover also shown above seems a bit muddy. The Alex Ross cover looks like everything else he's done of late amp; the J. S. Campbell cover is sexy but doesn't feel E.R.B. to me. I think Jusko nails the whole vibe.
As far as Dynamite goes, BT pick up last week's 1st ish of The Last Phantom. It was great and shows a future-Phantom forced into the purple. The Ross, bloody head cover rocks. The Boys was a lotta fun for the 1st 30 or so issues. Their Red Sonja can be very hit or miss but when it hits, it's quite good. See wktf's Lone Ranger reviews to read how respected amp; exciting that book is. I thought the Zorro kick-off was very good. Some of their Battlestar Galactica books were good too. I loved their 2 Jungle Girls series. I haven't enjoyed too many of their re-visits w/ pulp heroes.
For Dynamite, Lone ranger, Zorro, Queen Sonja and the Boys are brilliant..
Sorry, din't love the phantom, i just can't stomach the changes to the classic purple suit.
M gonna pick up the Warlord of mars series though.. can't get enuff ERB... bring on Tarzan NOW !!
Thanks guys, I'll check on those.
Ooh boy, I don't like the way this is looking... Starting off this classic story with a dark Hollywood-style shootout, so that we can learn what a bad-ass John Carter is? php/multime....php?aid=38990On the other hand, Dark Horse is reprinting quite a bit of older John Carter material:
Jesse Marsh hardcover: Edgar-Rice-Bur...6975250amp;sr=8-1
DC Stories: John-Carter-Ma...pd_sim_sbs_b_1
Marvel Stories: John-Carter-Ma...6975296amp;sr=1-7
Hauled the Jusko amp; Campbell Covers.
I will post my opinion after read it. |
