Should disabilities be in comics?

Ok I know it's comics and all but having for example Professor X in a wheelchair when you have Forge walking around with a bionic leg is just stupid IMO.
I know he can walk now but back then Cable took Weapon x to the 40th century to save his life with bionics and Chuck was still stuck in his chair.
The worst is Barbara Gordon with all the tech from guys like Steel,Mr.Terrific and Bruce you would think she would be out of her wheelchair in no time.
Babs best friend was put in a lazarus pit and she's fine.
Nick Fury looks cool with the patch so he's allowed.

They should have a super hero with Tourette's syndrome, I find that condition hilarious!

Good post, I'd never really thought about this.

Didn't Prof X regain the ability to walk at some point - late '80s or thereabouts?  But of course he lost it again.

Matt Murdock should be able to regain his sight, but if he could see his villains, maybe he'd run the other way...

Like you said about Nick Fury, sometimes a disability is a good visual effect.  I recall reading Tomb of Dracula when I was in elementary school:  Doctor Sun had a henchman named Juno, who had a metal lance in place of a missing hand, and that visual has stuck with me throughout the years.  Also, Deathstroke and X wouldn't look nearly as bad-ass if they weren't each missing an eye.

They do! His name is Deadpool! VR

And Physical ailments with in reason are okay, like Daredevil's blindness, Nick Fury's Blind eye, Prof X. inability to walk, etc.

But I am not sure a mental disability, unless it be just insanity like Black Bolt's brother Maximus, would go over well or even be doable. And I don't mean to offend, but you couldn't have a hero with down syndrome or severe autism. I least I don't think you could! And I am not saying that people with these syndromes are mindless, so don't crucify me when I say that we do have some mindless brutes in the pantheon of heroes, Hulk, Abom, Blob, Juggy,..etc., but their hindrance is compensated proportionally with their primary ability. It seems that one thing has to balance out the other. For example it would be impossible to have the Hulk have average intelligence, but be blind! How much would that suck! LOL!

And let's not discuss an internal ailment. That really wouldn't work! Could you imagine Abom or even Wonder Woman with Irritable Bowel Syndrome?

Just thinking out loud!

Well I didn't mean mental disabilities but for Barbara Gordon to be in a wheelchair a low tech one BTW makes no sense.
Black Canary was put into a lazarus pit and it healed her voice and now she's better than ever.
It's just strange to see Babs in a comic when her ex bf knows everyone good and bad that could help her.
I think there's still a lazarus pit in the batcave.

^^^ didnt Babs say she didnt want any cybog type implants.   I thought the low tech chair was so no att would be drawn to her.   But I didnt like the way she was just taken in BOP recently either.

It would be nice then she could return as Batwoman or a new hero totally its past time for her to move on. it also would of been nice to see her as nightwings sidekick instead of that awful Robin.  But before any changes are made to her like that a certain writer needs to stop writing the Bat books

The Beyonder gave him his sight back and although he was beyond happy with the fact, he eventually rejected it.
