Well Burkey did say he was putting up a quarter of a million worth of new stuff. He just didn't mention one item was 1/3 of it.
80K? I'll have a look down the back of my sofa, see what I can find.
Nostalga is an expensive thing; i'll warrant that if this art was produced today you would pick it up for $400. It is not Ditko's best.
I knew what this was as soon as I saw 80k LOL. If only... I hate being a mere mortal.
It does mention he accepts reasonable payment plans. Lets see $100 a month for......
Well, damn, that's a helluva a page...
Boy, does that page bring back memories........ That's pretty much as vintage classic Marvel as it gets. What gets me the most isn't so much the art itself (as great as it is). It's the obliviousness of the industry at the time as to the historic importance this page would one day have.
With all the characters including an early Doc Ock it is an amazing piece. When it comes to art like this is there one collector that owns the most? Or is art like this introduced into the market by the artist looking to pay-off a new car.

I myself owned a piece of Ditko from the issue where he had to re-sew his costume after Aunt May found the real one and threw it away; I can't remember which issue that was off the top of my head. If I remember correctly, I purchased it for something like $500 and that was near the high end for art at the time. I sold it a few years later for about $1750, but if I had it now, it would probably be worth over $25 or $30 thousand, if not more. Because it wasn't worth a lot, the art just got bought up a piece at a time, here and there, with full intact stories being rare. I would guess there are a few big collector's that have amassed a large amount of this artwork, but probably even more of it is in the hands of a large set of collectors. |
